With the rotation of the wheel of parliamentary elections in many Arab countries under the revolutionary spring, the Arab region enters a new era of freedom, democracy and openness which will lead to dramatic changes in the Arab political and partial action in the upcoming stage.
The win of the Islamists in general, and the Muslim Brotherhood in particular, did not come as a surprise to the intellectual observer who has a good knowledge of the Arab political arena. Among the active powers, they were at the front part and swallowed oppression, worst treatment and violence of the regimes over the past decades. They were deprived, along with others, of their right in practicing the partial work and the political participation as an attempt to prevent them from expressing the peole’s well and implement their projects across the Arab political arena.
Today, the Islamists secured a place in the history of freedom, and the balance of their fresh experience started to count up under the context of popular test. They will not be excused by the great challenges they face, after being on the top and gained the people’s confidence.
The Islamists now are in great need to know the sensitivity of the historical moment which brought them to power and leading positions in some Arab countries, and become aware of the serious internal and external challenges which lie in wait for their fresh experience to spot any slight faults.
Policy and economy
The Islamists face many challenges on the political and economical levels. We cannot escape saying that these challenges look difficult, thorny and complicated while facing a heavy legacy of the outgoing regimes, that dealt with various cases and issues with excessive moodiness and complete surface.
The first challenge would lie in the ability of the Islamists to bring together all parties under one umbrella, and create a state of political integrity within the joint national action.
One cannot talk about a single description for the relationship between the Islamists and their ideological and political opponents in some Arab arenas. The smoothness in arranging the internal papers between the Islamists in Tunisia and the nationalist, leftist and secular forces -and the same which is expected in Morocco- this may not be the same in the Egyptian scene which stores huge polarizations the last elections only showed part of it.

However, the first task for the Islamists, especially in Egypt, would be public-oriented through a clear message reassuring the various political forces, and relaxing the ideological and political conflict with these forces, in preparation for the establishment of bases of a joint action. This should lead to real partnership under the umbrella of the official institutions together, and defusing the crisis as well as calming the airs.
The second challenge would lie in controlling the Arab political and parliamentary life in a manner that preserves the gains of the revolution, ensure internal stability and allows the cooperation and integration of all bodies of the state.
In the Egyptian case, maintaining contact with the ruling military council is a matter of urgency until reaching the presidential elections and the completion of drafting a new Egyptian Constitution which all Egyptians rely on.

It’s important that the Islamists, particularly the Muslims Brotherhood, go slowly in the stage after winning the elections. There are many challenges they have to face, thus they have no choice but practicing a rational political performance in all fields with balanced relationships with the influential forces and the leading positions so that they proceed with the minimal obstacles, and pass- as in the Egyptian case- the bottleneck, to which Egypt slid due to the eras of political, social and cultural deterioration of Mubarak’s extinct regime.
The third challenge seems to be of vital importance, the general outlined political and economical program of the Islamists should be reflected in reality, in a clear, detailed and planned manner, and away from the generality with which the Islamists’ programs are characterized. It’s not enough to draw up outlines, general logos, and overall principles to be the platform of ruling the state. It’s not enough also to be armed with honest, sincerity and hardworking to encounter complexities and problems of the policy and economy.
There is difference between unrealistic programs that are full of general wording, for such programs only fit the opposition which is away from the responsibilities of governance and rule, and the detailed programs capable of providing accurate answers to the various issues, and responding to the growing challenges posed by the dark regional and international conditions.
Hence, adequate preparation for the stage after winning the elections, and interpreting words into actions through a realistic detailed program would launch a new era which would be in the credit of the Islamists, and bring benevolence to the whole nation from east to west.
As the challenge of dealing with the complicated regional and international communities seems essential, Islamists are forced to go through fields of mines of the regional and international policy. To practice policy from the position of ruling party is not like practicing it from the position of an absolute opposition. Therefore, the Islamists are going to involve in a thorny experience in the field of the relationships with the regional and international environment, especially in light of the sensitivity of some files like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the agreements, treaties, and relations with the Jewish State along with the complications involved in these files.
However, the Islamists have the vast capacities and qualified cadres with clear vision that will help them pass the difficulty of the stage, and ensure a complete depth and maturity of the Islamists’ experience.
Although the participation of the Salafis in the elections has scattered the Islamic voice and deprived the Muslim Brotherhood from a considerable proportion, still the Muslim Brotherhood remains the leading Islamic and dynamic power on the Arab and international levels. They are also the owners of the approach, message and experience, and the ones who are capable of carrying and adopting the rule with all its costs leading it to the end.

The Muslim Brotherhood, therefore, are face to face with a significant challenge in how to include the Salafis party and adapt it to accept the principles and rules of the political participation which is not bounded by the rigid boundaries and ideological principles. Certainly, it’s not an easy task at all under the sudden transition of the Salafis to the political action without prior preparation.
