The first episode
Certainly, the failure of the GCC Initiative is a political suicide for the regime. Should this happen, they would lose all personal gains over 33 years, including the Unification, which the regime has changed from a victory of the whole nation to a gain exclusively attributed to the regime and granting them many returns especially after the war of 1994 when the regime excluded the real partners who took part in achieving the Unification in May 22nd, 1990.
That exclusion let the head of the regime and his aides to do whatever they wanted with the country according to their whims and moods and to further marginalization and rejection of others particularly after the 1997 parliamentary elections. All that was a key to an important political shift, which grew and developed to the level of revolutionary action we are seeing today. After the regime had excluded its first partner in achieving the Unification (Yemeni Socialist Party), it then excluded the Yemeni Congregation for Reform (Islah Party) in a condemnatory, arrogant and accusatory language describing the Party as terrorists and a source of backwardness.
This led the two most important and powerful parties in the national arena to suffer from a regime that neither establishes partnership nor recognizes others, but is proud of its superiority in a selfish way that does not adhere to covenants or agreements.
Before these two parties, the Unionist Nasserite Party likely had suffered of the same; being accused by the regime of coup-organizers having a opportunist leadership. Though, this party has a long history of struggling in the Yemeni Revolution, the national unity and has a political presence and influence among the people.
All this contradiction from the side of the regime and (GPC) has created an alliance between these most important parties in the national arena. The alliance was based on strengthening trust, leaving mistakes of the past behind and opening a new page in typical relations among these three-party coalition bringing forth what we call today the Joint Meeting (JMP) Parties that got in harmony in terms of their media, political speech and benefited from mistakes the regime committed and was proud of under slogan "we shall not be defeated because of fewness".
While the regime deliberately falsified the history and counterfeited victory, which was a mutual achievement with the Socialist Party, there was a rapprochement between the parties in the opposition that suffered from the arrogance and rejection by the regime and its speeches aiming to divide and condemn. Out of the regime’s blatant language, the opposition proceeded to establish real alliance with a tone that joins but not divides and stands that enhance the common struggle against the GPC extravagance.
