General People's Congress today faces many challenges as a leading organization enjoys capabilities and competencies which are not found in other organizations. Perhaps, the greatest of these challenges is to endeavor to make a new formulation of the GPC enabling it to carry out its national role, after being enforced to be absent for the interest of influential powers within it that worked to exclude competencies, to stay as an unable organization unable to work according to GPC ideology which is the theoretical and practical (National Pact) evidence, which has been forgotten completely, for the regime to enter in the case of actual confusing in building the democratic process in Yemen, considering the regime's desire to make it as an organization defends and reflects its interests only. Therefore, the ideology was executed , and the loyal were marginalized, exhibiting the new arrivals from various parties who have exercised a kind of strangulation of the active cadres, which has been moaning for a long time due to the intended conspiracy.

The matter that reflected itself on the performance of the organization in order to act according to the regime in its movements, shifting from an active organization in democracy into a suppressor in threatening accusing language working to create a conflict among the national powers and contributing in creating chaos wanted by the regime through the GPC, to express its tendencies in confusing national concepts, targeting to hinder progress, paving the way for inheritance.

No wonder in this regard, we find GPC leaders whose performance was great, were suppressed and rewarded for their sincere efforts by entirely driven away from the organization; as if we were here as properties and possessions of the regime to upgrade and exclude as it likes.

As such  level of practice, a variable occurs on the national scene by the act of Peaceful Youth Revolution and when national power died down in GPC, it has become only a voice phenomenon, of no power to manipulate the defects and to find sublime national dialogues, to get in the end to claim the departure of the regime and to hold it accountable for what it has done of violations of human rights and freedoms ..

Important leaders and cadres in the General People's Congress had a vital role in this revolution. There were parliamentarians of the mass of the GPC who refused the situations to remain declining and that this organization was to be dedicated   for glorification of the individual and for worshiping him making him as a thinker who represented a homeland as a whole, the matter that disrupting creative capabilities, making the organization that had its creative role in achieving historic gains and victories to just a large machine driven by the regime according to its desires and trends, the matter that had upset many of GPC members.

There is no doubt that today we are in front of very important crossroads of history, which calls on all forces affiliated to it to prove their existence, their presence and their commitment to the General People's Congress by drawing a map of the new, escorting the peaceful revolutionary variable  as it is a really shame that the leaders who are known for their democratic process and national construction to be as merely a subordinate to what  overlooks of the head of a regime of no relation to what the masses want and not to express except the needs of a regime works for breaking down the useful life. 

It seems that the fallback of the regime  into itself taking its aides instead of the masses and GPC, enabling them to exercise corruption all over the country was the gate opened for the people to reject everything that has a relation with tyranny. Therefore, it happened through contribution and presence of members of the General People's Congress that the staff at the state institutions achieved a standard figure in overthrowing the leaders known by the injustice and tyranny. They thought they were apart from the tide of change and the anger of the people, until they saw themselves to what extent they had become hateful and unacceptable even to be negotiated or listened to. The cheers of staff to the corrupted officials was (depart), which is the departure that is becoming now as a necessity and urgent and does not accept the delay for the revolution to proceed on its track towards a new Yemen free of suffering, oppression and monopolizing power.

On this basis, the masses took up hands in large crowds to achieve their ambitions, which should have been understood and blessed by the President of the General People's Congress Ali Abdullah Saleh, had he belonged really to democracy, who expressed his refusal to change for the better on the grounds that it was not stated in Gulf Initiative, regardless of the validity or invalidity of his view in a recent speech before the General Committee and the Ministerial Committee. It was better for him as a president to bless any change desired by the masses for the better, the matter which  he could not do.

It had to realize the desire of all for change and to achieve its initiative at least by staying silent, given that things are heading for the better, however the regime considered this to be a taboo and a violation to the agreement. What it cared for is to keep the corrupts in their positions in the name of the GCC initiative. This what makes the regime always lagging in achieving the people's aspirations, because it builds its attitudes on its own perspectives, and not from the national interests, which it doesn't take into account at all. It doesn't give these national interests any attention as it does to its favored ones and the individuals which it wants to preserve their interests. Perhaps by so doing it prefers the national loss to the interests of the corrupt ones.

The interpretations of the GPC often stem from its wishes for keeping the homeland as a financial resource for those whose hearts are to be attracted. The regime itself and the GPC are just a den for theifs. The President in response to a post presidential elections questions and following his return from his medical trip implied that he would not leave his family and his friends without mentioning his homeland.

Ali Abdullah Saleh's spontaneous nature often discloses his psychological attitude. He wanted to say that his return to his party is for his friends, with whom he will manage the GPC as an opposing party in his own way which targets the others without compliance with a responsible national opposition.

So he wants to organize the GPC in the post his regime's era as tool for retaliation, spoiling democratic values and to seek ways for creating a mess. This is what he presents from his own perspective as his agenda after his regime's departure. No doubt he has excluded the homeland from his interests and made his main concern to employ the GPC as a incubator for his desires and attitudes, which doesn't give a good idea of the regime's character in the level of its call for abandoning violence and deserting hatred.

It seems that the mentality with which the regime has governed the country has been transferred to the GPC, which requires that the GPC should change its leadership, and lead an internal revolution that safeguards it from such practices. It would return it as a moderate organization which has a theoretical guidebook (the National pact,) which it deserves to build itself in light of it.

 What is looming on the arena now is that many of the prominent personalities and intellectuals cannot tolerate messing such an organization that has its national presence . They must lead the party for making a change and no one can exclude them, where they have their power in it as well as their national contributions and true attitudes that the party didn't like and worked for excluding them.
 
They won't accept that their GPC party to change into an organization for retaliation and revenge. They are to have a true stand for reviewing the party's policy, which is dominated by others who have no known history, and have caused the deterioration of the GPC into a fearful abyss, causing it to fail to be ineffective in the construction and change process. So, the membership and particularly the former leadership and intellectuals won't accept to be under the mercy of persons who have retaliatory tendencies, and desires for the personalization of the homeland issues, so as to drag it into political confrontations that obstruct its progress.
 
The recalling of the previous experience of the GPC in reluctance and disruption of dialogue would be very useful. It should be fresh in minds so as to avoid the negative and sustain the constructive. This party cannot be in the hands of individuals in a semi heredity issue, which failed on the state's level and it is meant to be transferred into the GPC.

Ali Abdullah Saleh as chairman of the GPC remains to be responsible for a number of failures that led to this huge change against the regime.

He should have a sincere stand before his party, as the first responsible man in the party. He should call for an extraordinary conference and he should be the first who practices self criticism as a true way for recovering the party's vitality.
 
 If the chairman of the GPC continues to rejoice his victories and doesn't admit the negatives, he would be met with those who demand making important changes that restructure the party so as to keep pace with the developments and to become a partner in the construction and change process.
My view point as a founding member of GPC and one of the cadres that worked in its intellectual and cultural fields as my colleagues know, I believe that the tasks of the GPC chairman after its departure from power would be as follows;

An accurate review to the party's practices, through a critical vision and harsh self criticism, that aims at the party's reconstruction on sound basis that pay the experienced and cultured members their due respect.

It should sift and disclose all the opportunists and alien forces that expelled the efficient members on basid of personal interests. The party will then be able to achieve its entity and build itself on democratic basis away from curtseys and benefits, which changed it from a political party into a social care organization that caused fearful stagnation in its structure.

The healthy beginning will be the self criticism. Dare the chairman of the GPC depart from enumerating the achievement and disclose the weak points? Could he bearing the responsibility to the extent of resigning to pave the way for a generation whose concerns are the construction and development and not revenge.

The next few days will answer this question which is a significant issue for rescuing this party which has a recognized national history. The characters that have history wouldn't accept that the GPC to be just an opportunist tool for a regime that is demanding immunity to corruption?

This is a shameful act, which we believe that the honorable ones wouldn't accept and will work for bringing out the GPC from an inferior subsidiary of the regime, into an organization that expresses the concerns and aspirations of all Yemenis, and refuses the monopolization of its potentials and experience in what seems to be a heredity so as to achieve personal interests of the regime that aims in the first place at the disruption of the movement of democracy, as a kind of reaction for a state of mind that couldn't think properly and it is now acting out of an emotional spirit of revenge. 

Perhaps this will make effective forces famous for their political wisdom to face what will hurt this great party, especially they know that what will be its fate if it remains to be a follower of the personal purposes of the regime. The experience of the national party in Egypt should be an important one to be born in mind so as to avoid the mistakes that would end the GPC

, unless it makes changes in its structures that keeps pace with the new facts that are produced by the youth revolution. The GPC history that provided victories should be born in mind and to build on its right past after clearing it from the domination and dictatorship and change it into an organization that confronts, struggles, maneuver, negotiates persuades and be persuaded. 

It is presumable that intellectual persons like Dr. Abdul-Karim al-Iriani has deep, strong and rich experience that has the ability through its effectiveness in certain stages of the party's orientation to create vital changes that are belonging to the modern new national humanitarian values.

It will push in the direction of a qualitative step that would bring back to the party its charisma and interaction with the youth peaceful revolution.

Such personalities will neither accept harming the history of the party nor their own history. They are before a great opportunity to express their national aspiration which the regime has hindered by its selfishness, inflexibility monopoly of the party.

It has an important area to cover and they have the existing situation that no more accepts the autocratic power and bets on the people's rights.

 If the GPC momentum and masses, have reorganized themselves, they will be a forefront force for administering the homeland, or it would turn into a bereaved chaotic party that is liable to inheritance, trading with the national issues and disrupting its progress. 

It could be preliminary revealed as plan by the chairman of the GPC who insists on holding meetings with the main aim of presiding the General committee to affirm that it is he and no other one who is in control.

Such is the behavior that exactly requires to be reviewed so as to restore the real democracy to the party and to reject dealing with the cadres as a tool for reaching the positions desired by opportunist forces.

Finally we have to say that the GPC is required to move quickly to refuse circumvention and domination, and to refuse transferring the regime's failure of inheritance to the GPC.

It is required to create a diversity within its unity, to respect others' opinion and to conduct dialogue that is based on national loyalty. It also needs to practice strong harsh self criticism so as to know the points of faults and overcome them, and the constructive ones so as to deal with and enhance them. 
 
The GPC has to reorganize its lines so as to enable the effective existence of the intellectuals, who work according the ideology (the national pact,) after it had been totally removed.

It is also required to refuse the dominant forces that opened the door for chaos and changed it into social care facility. It should also reject extremism, and elimination which the regime has exploited through its domination of the party.

In all cases, the real and serious criticism will reveal a great vacuum caused by the regime and will provide real solutions to cover and fill these vacuumes in a democratic responsible spirit, which we as GPC members hope from the relevant influential performers,

, and the national forces away from opportunism, elimination and the desire to deceit, the desire to crush enemies and claiming illusionary victories.

All this will only be an illusion that would drag the GPC to the same end of the two big ruling parties in Egypt and Tunisia, which many had announced their disavowal to them because of their failure to deal with the changes and ended up with the departure of their regimes, which is not hoped for the future of our pioneer party.
It seems that the isolation of the regime itself and its preference of those close to it instead of its masses and the GPC, as well as its allowing them to exercise corruption all along the country had presented, the gate that brought the people's rejection to all that is linked to tyranny

Many of the prominent personalities and intellectuals within the GPC will not accept tampering with a party with a national presence, or to remain under the power of     characters with orientation of revenge. They have to stand up honestly and responsibly to create change within the party.
