Large numbers have been repeated in Yemeni media outlets in terms of internal and external displacement. Yemen, as poor country, faces many obstacles since its resources are limited and problems exist in power transition. The political process in the country needs more time as to enable the new authority from extending control on all Yemeni soil.
International and regional community should recognize this issue. The other thing, Yemen is facing internal and external displacement due to the coming of hundreds of thousands Somalis and Ethiopians, rather, people coming from Horn of Africa from different citizenships such as Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia and Africa in general. Accordingly, we say that Yemen's status is exceptional and above all aids offered to it such as financial and food aid for Yemeni people. Yemen losses millions of dollars, in return of sheltering hundreds of thousands of Africans.
According to former statement by Deputy Minister of Yemeni Foreign Ministry Dr. Ali Muthna Hassan published by Jumhooria newspaper, he said that Yemen experiences collective displacement of 400 thousand Yemeni people due to clashes between the State and extremist organizations including al-Qaeda group in some provinces in terms of internal displacement. However, the other displacement Muthna stated, "Number of refugees and emigrants who arrived in Yemen during last years totaled 750 thousand refugees, the matter which increased burdens on the country which suffers hard economic and social situations particularly after events of 2011.
Dr. Muthna explained that the Islamic world hosts about 20 million refugees equivalent to 68% of numbers of refugees in the world estimated at 43 million and 900 thousand refugees. This entails special attention of this sensitive issue, pointing out that about 400 refugees and emigrants arrive daily in Yemeni coasts. With that, Yemen is the only Arab State that carries additional burdens beyond endurance, despite the weak potential. The international community should pay attention to this issue and significantly take care of refugee issue and to help Yemen to carry out humanitarian duties and problems facing it. That will not happen unless there is required support as soon as possible.
